| Definition |
Tanning of the tergites obscures the Malpighian tubules and the 'yellow body'. Legs begin to twitch; fly is able to walk if puparium is removed prematurely. Ptilinum expands by hydrostatic pressure, opening the operculum. Duration at 25 degrees C: approximately 8 hours, 6 minutes.
