General Information
Term accessory tibial flexor muscle ID (Ontology) FBbt:00059104 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Muscle that originates in the distal femur and attaches to the proximal tibia (Soler et al., 2004; Azevedo et al., 2024). It is the shorter of two muscles that flex the femur-tibia joint (Azevedo et al., 2020; Azevedo et al., 2024). It is composed of 29 fibers (Kuan et al., 2020).[ FlyBase:FBrf0180184 FlyBase:FBrf0246170 FlyBase:FBrf0247324 FlyBase:FBrf0259940 ]
Also Known As "tibial reductor muscle" ; "TiR muscle" ; "tirm"
Comment Miller (1950) call this a depressor (show one large and one small tibial depressor per leg). Soler et al. (2004) refer to this (smaller) muscle as a tibia reductor. Azevedo et al. (2020, 2022) say that this muscle flexes the femur-tibia joint and it is referred to in Azevedo et al. (2024) as the 'accessory tibia flexor'.
