General Information
Term Malpighian tubule tiny cell ID (Ontology) FBbt:00110861 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Small cell found in the lower part of the tubule and in the ureter. It contains a reduced cytoplasm, a compact nucleus and thin processes and it lies close to the tubular walls. They are distinct from the stellate cells.[ FlyBase:FBrf0093736 FlyBase:FBrf0202697 FlyBase:FBrf0245230 ]
Comment These cells may be neurosecretory (Sozen et al., 1997). In the adult they are stem cells (Singh et al., 2007; Wang and Spradling, 2020). Tiny cells are also found in the posterior midgut (Sozen et al., 1997).
