ID (Ontology) |

| Definition |
Ring of small cells between the adult midgut and hindgut that express markers of both regions, as well as wingless (Sawyer et al., 2017). This boundary region does not contain stem cells, but regulates proliferation of nearby stem cells in the posteriormost part of the midgut and prevents cells from crossing between midgut and hindgut (Sawyer et al., 2017).[ FlyBase:FBrf0237229 FlyBase:FBrf0244771 ] |
| Also Known As |

| Comment |
Renamed from 'hindgut proliferation zone' as this region was shown not to contain stem cells and it is not considered part of the hindgut (Sawyer et al., 2017; Cohen et al., 2020) - https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1373-1705. |
