| Term | larval VUM motor neuron | ID (Ontology) | FBbt:00110181 (Fly Anatomy) |
| Definition | Motor neuron that develops from a VUM precursor (midline precursors 4-6) (Crews, 2019). There are three of these cells per segment (Schmid et al., 1999). They are modulatory motor neurons; in A1-7, one VUM motor neuron innervates the dorsal muscles, one innervates the ventral muscles, and one innervates the lateral muscles. These neurons are all octopaminergic and tyraminergic (Stocker et al., 2018).[ FlyBase:FBrf0072659 FlyBase:FBrf0112030 FlyBase:FBrf0180108 FlyBase:FBrf0238580 FlyBase:FBrf0244240 ] | ||
| Also Known As | "larval vumTDC2 neuron" ; "mVUM" ; "ventral unpaired motorneuron" (for all, see Synonyms field below) | ||
| Comment | Wheeler et al. (2006) - FBrf0195284 showed expression of the vesicular glutamate transporter (vGlut), tyramine beta-hydroxylase (Tbh) and the vesicular monoamine transporter (Vmat). Vomel and Wegener (2008) used Tdc2-GAL4 and anti-Tbh. Selcho et al. (2012) used Tdc2-GAL4, validated with anti-Tbh, anti-p-tyramine and anti-conjugated octopamine. Stocker et al. (2018) used octopamine and tyramine antibodies. VUM neurons are found in thoracic and abdominal segments (Schmid et al., 1999). Seem to be the only type II MN to innervate body wall (hypodermal) muscles. | ||
