Description

Imprecise excision of the P{EP} element, resulting in a 400bp deletion in the second exon of Top3β, from nucleotide 495 to 894 downstream from the translation start site. There is a 170bp fragment of the P{EP} element left behind.

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

The third instar larval neuromuscular junction of Top3β26/Top3β16 transheterozygotes exhibits significantly more branches and boutons than controls.

Top3β26 mutant flies have normal smooth eyes with no necrotic ommatidia.

Top3β26 mutant third instar larvae exhibit neuromuscular junction abnormalities in muscle 4. Their synaptic branch and bouton numbers are significantly higher than in wild type flies.

Top3β26 mutants show no pronounced fertility defects and their lifespan is normal.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The number of synaptic branches and boutons in muscle 4 neuromuscular junctions is significantly lower in Top3β26 Fmr1Δ50M double mutant third instar larvae than in either mutant alone.

A Top3β26 mutant background enhances the rough eye phenotype seen in flies expressing Fmr1sev.PW. Flies show a threefold increase in necrosis and a more disorganised photoreceptor cluster in each ommatidium when compared to expression of Fmr1sev.PW in a wild type background.
