    Description

    P{lacZ} insertion in the coding region of the first exon. Transcription of piwi from a cryptic promoter starts in the first intron in this mutant line, resulting in the translation of a shortened piwi protein which lacks the 26 most N-terminal amino acids of the wild-type piwi sequence.

        Egg chambers of homozygous, piwiNt/piwi2 and piwiNt/Df(2L)BSC145 females have a near-normal number of egg chambers in the ovarioles.

        Oocytes are correctly positioned in most homozygous egg chambers. The germaria contain a normal number of germline stem cells.
