Description

The phospholipase A2 family of proteins catalyze the hydrolysis of the sn-2 ester bond of phospholipids to lysophospholipids and fatty acids. Ca+² independent members do not require Ca+² for their activity. (Adapted from FBrf0229704 and FBrf0157225).

Notes on Group

sws has been excluded from the PHOSPHOLIPASE A2 ENZYMES - CALCIUM INDEPENDENT gene group, as it shows lysophospholipase activity and is a member of patatin-like phospholipase (PNPLA) domain containing protein family (see FBrf0206244 and FBrf0229704).

JMJD7 is listed as a calcium-independent phospholipase A2 in FBrf0161471 and FBrf0229704, but this appears to be an incorrect propagation from a previous error that human JMJD7 is an alternatively spliced isoform of PLA2G4B (see P0C870 entry at UniProt). JMJD7 is not included here.
