Description
Description
Alpha 1,3-fucosyltransferases catalyze the transfer of a fucose residue from the donor substrate, GDP-fucose, to an acceptor oligosaccharide, glycoprotein or glycolipid in an α-1,3-linkage. They are type II transmembrane Golgi-anchored proteins containing an N-terminal cytoplasmic tail, a transmembrane domain, and an extended stem region followed by a large globular C-terminal catalytic domain facing the Golgi lumen. (Adapted from PMID:16973733.)
Notes on Group

FucTA is the only alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase homolog known to possess core alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase activity - FucTB, FucTC and FucTD have restricted expression patterns and do not appear to be catalytically active (FBrf0137268, FBrf0190902), and are therefore excluded from this group.
