ScerGAL4Gr89a.2 drives expression in adult abdominal multidendritic neurons with with dorsal processes extending along the left-right axis, as well as in multidendritic neurons with lateral processes extending anteroposteriorly; these major processes have several protruding dendrites. Additionally, expression is driven in laterally localized multidendritic neurons with extensive arborization. Expression is also observed in projections to the abdominal ganglion.
ScerGAL4Gr89a.2 is expressed in gustatory neurons of all of the bitter-sensitive short labellar taste bristles, and in gustatory neurons of all of the intermediate labellar taste bristles.
ScerGAL4Gr89a.2 is strongly expressed in almost all of the short and intermediate taste sensilla of the labellum.
Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4Gr89a.2 neurons induces some proboscis extension, compared to controls, but this is at a low frequency.
