Analysis of mouth hook morphology shows that homozygous Ccdc56D11 mutants take 10-12 days to reach the third instar larval stage, compared to 4-5 days in controls. The resulting third instar larvae are smaller than controls, remain at this stage for over 20 days, and die before pupariation.

Homozygous Ccdc56D11 mutant imaginal discs are smaller than in controls, showing a reduction in the number of mitotic cells and increased levels of apoptosis.
