Description

Deletion extending from 40bp upstream of the Inos gene to 670bp downstream of it. Generated by FLP-mediated recombination between the FRT sites present in the PBac{WH}f00895 and P{XP}d00881 progenitor insertions.

InosΔDF individuals reared in inositol-containing diets show normal hatching rates and normal life-span, as compared to controls.

InosΔDF males show exhibit normal mating behavior including copulation but their testes are smaller and more fragile than controls and no waste bag is observed, the seminal vesicle lacks mature sperm, the spermatid bundles are irregularly-shaped. In agreement, wild-type females mated to InosΔDF males have virgin-like ovaries and seminal receptacles and eggs do not appear to be fertilized.
