Abstract
If, early in development, theUbx (+) gene is removed by mitotic recombination from cells of the meso-and metathoracic leg primordia, theseUbx (-) cells develop as in the posterior prothoracic leg. We show that this transformation, termedpostprothorax, is a discrete genetic function that is independent of other homeotic transformations such asbx, pbx orbxd, which also result from the inactivation of theUbx gene.
