A protein activation cascade that initiates blood coagulation, starting with a signal from tissue factor (TF), a cell-surface, integral-membrane protein, which converts Factor IX to IXa, and Factor IXa converts Factor X to Xa. Factor Xa then initiates the common pathway.[ PubMed:26018600 ] |
