General Information
Term foramen ovale closure ID (Ontology) GO:0035922 (Gene Ontology)
Definition The morphogenetic process in which the foramen ovale closes after birth, to prevent blood flow between the right and left atria. In the fetal heart, the foramen ovale allows blood to enter the left atrium from the right atrium. Closure of the foramen ovale after birth stops this blood flow.[ PubMed:19762328 ]
