General Information
Term aflatoxin biosynthetic process ID (Ontology) GO:0045122 (Gene Ontology)
Definition The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of aflatoxin, a fungal metabolite found as a contaminant in moldy grains that induces liver cancer. Aflatoxin induces a G to T transversion at codon 249 of p53, leading to its inactivation. Aflatoxin is converted to a chemical carcinogen by P450.[ ISBN:0716731363 ISBN:0815316194 PubMed:15006741 ]
Also Known As "aflatoxin anabolism" ; "aflatoxin biosynthesis" ; "aflatoxin formation" (for all, see Synonyms field below)
