Subject: Helping FlyBase: ADRC-60240 Dear Eyal, We are currently curating the abstracts for the upcoming 48th (Philadelphia) Annual Drosophila Research Conference, for FlyBase. I am writing in connection with your abstract: Recruitment of the cellular actin polymerization machinery is essential for myoblast fusion in Drosophila embryos. You mention a gene symbol that is new to FlyBase, WIP. Do you know which of the CG annotations your gene corresponds to? All the CGs have corresponding gene records in FlyBase already and we don't like to make duplicate records for what is actually the same gene unless we can't avoid it. The CG symbols become synonyms when an annotation is named with a more descriptive or functional name. Best regards, Rachel. Subject: Re: Helping FlyBase: ADRC-60240 Dear Rachel, The gene we're referring to in the abstract is CG13503. We identified it on the basis of its homology to the mammalian protein WIP (WASp Interacting Protein). The homology was also noted by others, who often describe the fly protein as a homolog of Verprolin, the yeast homolog of WIP. Please let me know if I can help clarify matters further. Best wishes, Eyal Schejter
