Polytene chromosomes normal.
Deletion of 6.5kb between coordinates +108 and +115, removing the 3' portion of the gene.
cos2 mutant clones in the wing disc that are derived from the anterior compartment often cross the anterior/posterior compartment boundary.
Lethality occurs in the late embryonic and first larval instar stages. The majority of hemizygotes die as larvae. cos2/cos7 and cos6/cos7 flies display local pattern duplications on the anterior margin of the wings and halteres. Mutant embryos derived from germ-line clones show an abnormal deletion-duplication phenotype in each segment, similar to that of ptc mutants. A small part of the denticle belt is absent and the duplication involves quite a large area. The entire belt is composed on average of seven to eight denticle rows. The width of the denticle belts is also reduced. A few embryos show an anterior open phenotype.
cos2 is a suppressor of dorsal thick hair phenotype of Scer\GAL4en-e16E, hhN.UAS
cos2 is a suppressor of embryonic/larval cuticle phenotype of Scer\GAL4en-e16E, hhN.UAS
Overexpression of hhN.Scer\UAS under the regulation of Scer\GAL4en-e16E, in cos2 mutants fails to convert tertiary fates (thick, pigmented hair) to ectopic secondary fates (smooth cuticle) on the dorsal epidermis of larvae.
