Mature homozygous adult flies have a significantly lower body glycogen content than mature wild-type flies.
There is a decrease in the apical cell region of the wing discs in homozygous larvae.
Flies show notum duplications, due to a homeotic transformation of wing base structures to notum.
vgW/vgunspecified flies completely lack wings and halteres and the scutellum is deformed. The postscutellar bristles are usually absent. Development is slow, and only 20-30% of flies eclose. Viability and fertility is reduced.

vgunspecified; M(3)801 heterozygotes are normal at 22oC. At 29oC they have nicks in the apical part of the wing. su(f)8/Y ; vgunspecified/+ flies are normal at 22oC. At 28oC they have nicked wings and show a bb-like phenotype, having small bristles, slow development and cuticular defects. Ybbts1; vgunspecified/+ flies have nicked wings at 22oC.
uex1 does not interact with the vgunspecified mutation.
