Flies expressing wgts.GMR at 220C have an almost complete loss of bristles in the ventral part of the eye. At 200C, the eyes have no bristles. At 180C, almost all of the ommatidia in the dorsal half of the eye are transformed into characteristic ommatidia that are usually only found at the periphery of the dorsal half, and the eyes are smaller. At 160C, pigment rim tissue is present, predominantly in ventral regions of the eye, instead of only being present at the periphery of the retina. Df(3L)iro-DFM3 clones induced in the dorsal half of the eye in wgts.GMR flies raised at 180C show a high frequency of non-dorsal rim ommatidia in the region where only dorsal rim ommatidia are normally observed.
