Comments concerning this interaction

The interaction of cry-MagR forms the basis of a magnetic biocompass.

Interaction in vitro; bait produced as a recombinant fusion protein in bacterial system; prey produced as a recombinant fusion protein in bacterial system.

Authors started from the prediction that a magnetic biocompass would involve an iron-containing protein that interacts with the cry light sensing protein. They selected 14 proteins predicted to 1) bind iron, 2) be expressed in the head, 3) and be localized to the cytoplasm. These were then tested for interaction with cry in the presence of light and a magnetic field.
