We share the gratification of the Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center as they announce the establishment of the Kathy Matthews Fund to support research resource development, distribution, and the long-term sustainability of the Stock Center in perpetuity. This fund is endowed through a major donation by Lawrence W. Washington, to honor Dr. Matthews, his late wife. The Stock Center has released this announcement of the fund's inception. The IU College of Arts + Sciences has also released this announcement of the endowment.

Dr. Matthews was a co-founder of FlyBase in 1992, and she served for many years as one of the PIs directing FlyBase. Her guidance and wisdom were invaluable to the FlyBase mission, and she forged the strong cooperative bonds that now connect FlyBase and the BDSC. We remember her with warmth, and her presence is still felt and still missed by everyone at FlyBase who knew her.
