Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion, resulting in a 550bp deletion extending from nucleotide 19257152 to nucleotide 19257703 (coordinates according to GenBank accession AE014296). The deletion affects the promoter region and the 5'UTR of Max but leaves the open reading frame intact. The deletion also disrupts the neighbouring CG9666 gene.
