Embryos derived from homozygous females generally show no visible sign of embryonic development when observed under transmitted light in a stereo microscope. A fraction of the eggs begin embryonic development, but they invariably become abnormal by the cellular blastoderm stage, forming irregular cellular blastoderms and fragmented cuticle. Homozygous adults have tergite defects.
