Embryos laid by heterozygous females are either ventralised or lateralised. Embryos laid by eaD8/Df(3R)ea-5022rx1 females are markedly more elongated and have fewer denticle bands than embryos laid by eaD8/+ females. All embryos laid by eaD8/Df(3R)ea-5022rx1 females develop a lateralised head fold during gastrulation.

Embryos are lateralized and exhibit an almost apolar phenotype in which laterally derived denticles develop all around the embryo circumference. Perivitelline fluid transplantation using eaD8 embryos as donors and ea1/ea2 embryos as recipients demonstrated that the rescue of the ea phenotype results from the transplantation of the ea gene product.

Embryos lateralized.

Embryos have a lateralized phenotype: differentiate rings of ventral denticles around the entire dorso-lateral circumference and do not form the ventrally derived mesoderm.

Female viability and male fertility are not reduced. Embryos exhibit ventralised phenotype.
