Homozygous mutant γ neurons (generated in the brain as somatic clones) exhibit no detectable abnormalities in larval or adult stages.
Females containing homozygous germline clones do not lay eggs. The germline clones appear to arrest and degenerate at stages 8-9. Some yolk is seen in the oocyte but the follicle cells rarely complete their migration to the oocyte. Although the germline degenerates in the clonal egg chambers, the follicle cell layer remains remarkably intact. Oocytes are small and sometimes displaced to one side of the posterior end of the egg.
Homozygous embryos display a small third midgut compartment with absent first midgut constriction.
Early lethal.
