Previously the females were described as having severely atrophied ovaries at 29oC and at 23oC females are fertile (FBrf0039483). Now females are sterile between 18oC and 29oC. SxlK1274-1/Sxlf1 individuals are lethal. Double homozygous snf- SxlK1274-1 females are semi-lethal and survivors have tumorous egg chambers.
At the non-permissive temperature homozygous females lay no eggs.
females produce few if any eggs. temperature-sensitive recessive female-sterile Viability good at 29oC but ovaries of homozygous females severely atrophied, probably with tumorous follicles. At 25oC cysts contain 16 nurse cells and no oocyte; females fertile when raised at 23oC. Mosaic studies indicate germ-line function of gene (Perrimon and Gans, 1983).
