    Reference

Ovarioles of mutant females all contain tumorous egg chambers.

temperature-sensitive allele fu wing-vein phenotype occurs at all temperatures; ocelli absent when raised at 22oC but not at 17oC. TSP for absence of anterior ocellus from second instar through pupal stage, for posterior ocelli restricted to late third instar and early pupal stage. Flightless when raised at 22oC or 29oC but not at 17oC; wings held horizontally perpendicular to body at 29oC. Musculature abnormal when raised at restrictive temperatures (Homyk and Grigliatti, 1983).

Distribution of Sxl product in ovaries is abnormal, the transtition from cytoplasmic to nuclear distribution does not occur. Most if not all of the small germ cells that populate the tumorous cysts show high levels of Sxl protein. Sxl splicing occurs exclusively in the female mode. Temperature shift experiments indicate that only the early steps in oogenic differentiation are affected.
