Adults show a reduced response to sucrose in a feeding preference test. This phenotype is semidominant. Adults show an enhanced attraction to 100mM sodium chloride (NaCl) compared to wild-type. This phenotype is fully recessive. Adults show tolerance to 0.5M NaCl and 0.2M potassium chloride. This phenotype is partially dominant. The threshold of avoidance of quinine is increased compared to wild-type. This phenotype is partially dominant. Homozygous adults show an elevated spike frequency from the labellar chemoreceptors in response to 100mM NaCl. The electrophysiological response to sucrose is normal.

Taste mutant that affects the fly's responses to attractants and repellents. Originally said to be "indifferent" to sodium chloride (NaCl), but now known to give responses (greater than wild type) to this salt in the feeding preference test (Arora). Indifferent to quinine (C20H24N2O2), and sucrose (C12H22O11).

Two forms of α-glucosidase activity that are normally found in the legs (and are enriched in the tarsi of these appendages in wild type) are present in lower amounts than normal in gustCx2 flies.
