Heterozygotes are attracted to sodium chloride (NaCl), but show greatly reduced attraction to all sugars in a feeding preference test. Attraction to NaCl is accompanied by firing of the L1 neuron of the taste sensilla. The electrophysiological response of the S neuron of the taste sensilla is unchanged. Flies are not attracted by potassium chloride. GustR1 is epistatic to gustEv86 in the response to sodium chloride.
Taste mutant that affects the fly's responses to attractants and repellents.
Selected as: Mutation with an increased threshold for repulsion by NaCl in a feeding preference test.
