Adult flies have an extended proboscis and a swollen abdomen (temperature-sensitive phenotype). Adults show temperature-sensitive lethality; they die 5-8 days after eclosion at 29oC. There is also a temperature-sensitive semi-lethal period during preimaginal development, during the embryonic to second larval instar stage.

Cross.
The temperature-sensitive proboscis and abdomen phenotype has not been genetically localised, and could therefore be due to a second-site mutation.
