Hemizygous pupae are larger and darker than wild-type, and many contain an abnormal air space in the posterior end. The pupae usually contain one large melanotic tumour, and show a complete lack of cuticle differentiation, except possibly over the genital region. The eye-antennal discs evert but the leg and wing discs do not.
Hemizygous cub1/Df(2L)TW130 animals survive to the late third larval instar stage. cub1/Df(2L)TW130 ovaries from third instar larvae transplanted into wild-type late third instar host larvae are not detectable in the adult host flies.
