Homozygous larvae show a bloated phenotype.
The frequency and extent of imaginal differentiation in mutant larvae is strongly increased in pure oxygen.
After transplantation into normal hosts, mutant imaginal discs develop normally, ovaries also develop normally and are fully capable of producing viable eggs.
Larvae become bloated and transparent from accumulation of an abnormal amount of haemolymph. The concentration of amino acids in the haemolymph is higher than normal, while the concentration of proteins is reduced. Pupation is delayed by one day at 25oC and dwarfed pupae form in inflated puparia. Death follows pupation or completion of imaginal differentiation of the head and thorax, the abdomen never metamorphoses. RK3.
