Strong defect in chromosome condensation restricted to the heterochromatic regions.
mus101ts1/mus101D2 females are hypersensitive to killing by MMS and have reduced fertility. Homozygous females have reduced fertility. Chromosome condensation is abnormal in homozygous third instar larval ganglia at 29oC, but normal at 18oC. Only heterochromatic portions of the genome are affected, being undercondensed, at 29oC. Approximately 2% of cells contain broken chromosomes.
