mus105A1 mutants have a similar frequency of single-strand annealing repair (SSA) compared to controls in a P{wIw.FRT} hemizygous assay to study DNA double-stranded break repair when assayed at 38oC.
Homozygotes and hemizygotes show a higher frequency of spontaneous chromosome aberrations in neuroblast metaphases than wild-type larvae. The ratio of chromatid breaks to isochromatid breaks is 1.9-2.5. Approximately 80% of the breaks are euchromatic. The breaks appear to be randomly distributed among the chromosomes. Breaks are 1.4-1.6 times more frequent in females than in males.
Hemizygous male larvae are sensitive to methyl methanesulfonate (MMS). They show wild-type resistance to ultra violet (UV) light and some sensitivity to X rays. Only 0.2% of eggs laid by homozygous females develop into adults that eclose.
