Polytene chromosomes normal.

Description

Nucleotide substitution A1117G, plus insertion of 5 nucleotides between nucleotides 1581 and 1584: G(1581)agtaCCtA(1584) (lowercase nucleotides are the inserted bases). This results in the missense mutation K373E and a frameshift at amino acid residue 528 which produces a stop codon at residue 530. Coordinates of the lesions are the position in the 2-μ-4a spliced form of pb.

Comment:

A five base insertion causes a frameshift and early translation termination. GCCA becomes GagtaCCtA, where the inserted nucleotides are in lower case. One of two lesions characterized in mutant.

Nucleotide change:

A6710627G

Reported nucleotide change:

A1117G

Amino acid change:

K373E | pb-PA; K368E | pb-PB; K368E | pb-PC; K363E | pb-PD

Reported amino acid change:

K373E

Comment:

One of two lesions characterized in mutant.

Detailed Description

pb35/pb20 flies have vestigial maxillary palps, the labellar caps are weakly transformed to tarsi (claws and pulvilli form, but the tarsi are short and stumpy and sometimes arista-like structures are observed) and the pseudotracheae are missing.

The labial palp is transformed to prothoracic leg.
