      Black aggregations are seen in the abdomen and thorax of flies. Tumours are visible in larvae 96 hours after hatching. The incidence of tumours is variable, approaching 100% in uncrowded cultures. Modifiers of the phenotype are located on chromosome 1 and in the middle of chromosome 3.
