The wings of homozygotes appear as small, veinless clubs, the halteres are absent on one or both sides or severely reduced, and the postscutellar bristles are erect. Half or all the notum is missing in 10% of flies, one or more legs may be severely bent or truncated with loss of tarsi or both (the metathoracic legs are most often affected), and abdominal tergites may be deleted on one side or severely misaligned. 45% of females, and 20% of males have severe leg defects. Females are completely sterile; ovaries appear normal, but no eggs are laid. Many heterozygotes have mild to severe wing notching or scalloping.
