      Wings and halteres are absent.

      Wings and halteres are dramatically reduced, and scutellar bristles are erect or sometimes absent. Females are sterile with partially developed ovaries. No sterility is seen in homozygous males. vgext1/Df(2R)vg-B flies have thoracic anomalies and females are sterile.
