The biochemical properties of the Est-6F and Est-6S allozymes have been studied. The two allozymes have differences in their physical and kinetic properties that may be related to the natural distribution of these two variants. Est-6S is more thermostabile than Est-6F at temperatures above 40oC.

Gramoxone increases the frequency of the Est-6S allele and decreases the frequency of the Est-6F allele in the offspring of treated flies.

The frequency of the AdhS allele in Eurasian natural populations decreases towards the centre of the continent and is positively correlated with temperature of the coldest month and the rainfall of the driest month.

Electrophoretic mobility of Est-6S protein is less than that of Est-6F protein.
