Axons along the anterior margin of the wing often form a thickened fibre (neuroma). Though a few fibres continue to travel proximally, in some cases the nerve stops growing beyond the neuroma. In these cases glial nuclei accumulate on the neuroma.

Viable Abruptex allele. In some flies the L1 nerve forms a neuroma close to the twin sensilla on the wing margin.
