        Yolk protein preciptates as globules in the sub-basement membrane space of the fat body. These globules are capable of passing into the hemolymph but are morphologically distinct from the globules in the Yp1 mutant Yp1ts1. Yolk protein aggregates are found in the space between the plasmalemma and the vitelline membrane and embedded within the membrane itself. This apparently interferes with the correct assembly of egg shell membranes, causing sterility.
