bobbed mutant flies transcribe significant quantities of Type I insertion bearing rRNA transcripts which are probably precursor transcripts. In addition to the above, several smaller transcripts are detected with the Insertion I probe. In wild type flies, the level of Insertion I containing transcripts is very low.
