Detailed Description

Mutants have impaired visual pattern memory.

Homozygous larvae show reduced locomotor behaviour (shorter path lengths) on agar (non-foraging surface) and yeast (foraging surface) compared to controls. Larvae perform normally in a roll over test.

Ellipsoid body abnormal and noduli malformed or fragments.

Ellipsoid body is flat and broadened. Deficient in olfactory learning.

Ellipsoid body of central brain abnormally flat and broad; fiber number in inter-hemispheric commissure of brain reduced (in white pupae); abnormal larval and adult learning in tests using olfactory stimuli; activity in open-field locomotor test reduced.

On isolation this allele showed optic lobe defects, but this characteristic no longer apparent.

Strains differ from wild type in one or more larval behavioural assays.
