Most of the cells of the Malpighian tubules of homozygous embryos fail to undergo rearrangement to form tubes with a two cell circumference. Only cells at the distal end of the tubule rearrange.
Hemizygotes display defects in CNS and PNS development. CNS has significantly fewer axons to make up the longitudinal connectives and the intersegmental and segmental nerves in embryos. The PNS has few or no chordotonal organs. Midgut constrictions do not appear, late embryos have a solid yolk plug.
Yolk plug, no Malpighian tubules.
embryonic lethal undispersed yolk plug and no visible Malpighian tubules. Cuticle phenotype normal.
