Construct: As for h14.0, but with deletion of an approximately 6kb fragment, from between approximately 0.5kb and 6.5kb upstream of h.
2% of homozygous embryos hatch and survive to adulthood, and 34% have normal head structures. The adult flies display the h bristle phenotype that is not rescued by h transgenes, and lack one abdominal segment because of the missing expression stripe 5. Viability is low because most embryos express insufficient stripes 2, 3 or 4, disrupting essential head and thoracic and/or abdominal segments.
