Construct: nanos response elements included in P element-borne copy of tor, such that tor expression declines within the posterior part of the embryonic body.
In embryos where tor protein derives solely from torNRE transcripts, middle body segments are often missing, termed a "splice" phenotype. Embryos that also derive wild type tor protein from wild type gene overcome this phenotype, indicating that downregulation or torNRE by nanos causes the torNRE mutant phenotype. "Splice" phenotype of torNRE is dependent on tll, trk and tsl.
