Construct: Contains a 12kb EcoRI fragment including the Dp(2;2)RanGapSD tandem duplication.
Construct allows low levels of segregation distortion; the segregation ratio for the second chromosome in Rspi/Rspss males carrying P{Sd.P}, where k is the proportion of Rspi bearing progeny among the total offspring, is k= 0.597 +/- 0.014 (P{Sd.P}2) and k= 0.604 +/- 0.012 (P{Sd.P}3), which is significantly different from the control value of k= 0.497 +/- 0.008. The reduced level of distortion could be due to lack of drive elements. In the presence of Dp(2;Y)R10 (carrying E(SD)1 and lacking RanGAPSd), and Df(2L)Sd37 (lacking RanGAPSd and E(SD)1, but M(SD)1 and St(SD)1 are present), high levels of distortion are measured. RanGAPSd.tPa induces high levels of segregation distortion in the presence of the SD-5[R7] chromosome (E(SD)1, Rspi, M(SD)1, St(SD)1) over a target homolog chromosome carrying Rspss or Rsps.
Alone this is not sufficient to produce detectable distorted segregation of an Rsps bearing chromosome.
Effect is insertion independent and is seen for both P{Sd.P}2 and P{Sd.P}3.
