There is an insertion of DNA upstream of the coding region, although it is not clear whether this is responsible for the mutant phenotype. The restriction map of Dana\f79B is different from other Dana\f mutations and the wild-type Dana\f locus, suggesting that the locus may be rearranged in this mutant.
