By comparison to wAR4-24 flies exhibit reduced eye pigmentation of the ventral and dorsal eye. wAR4-24E1 represses expression in ventral posterior region in wAR4-24E1/wAR4-24 flies. In the presence of z1 flies show some degree of dorsal-ventral pigment restriction.
wAR4-24E2 cannot repress w+ or wa expression nor cause dorsal repression of w gene expression of a third chromosome transposition of P{wAR}. These results suggest that the trans effects of wAR4-24E1, and wAR4-24E2 on each other are proximity-dependent effects, possibly mediated by somatic chromosome pairing.
